See more information about this very moving turn of events regarding the untimely passing of a professional diver Steve Wingard of Falls Village CT during a working situation clearing a drain below a hydro plant.

The details of what caused the malfunction or accident are not clear, however the family is very appreciative of the support people are sharing on many levels, including with raising funds to cover funeral experiences.

Steve Wingard was a skilled worker with that extra edge for adventure and capability. He was a student at Housatonic Valley Regional High School of Falls Village CT, Class of 2012.  As it turns out, that is the same class our teen son Kaelan had shared his freshman year with, likely knowing Steven through sports a few years prior.

Unfortunately, Kaelan passed away on the final day of school when helping to save his friends from the Falls nearby after school let out in June 2019. The support that everyone can hope to give one another as friends and community members may unfold over the years, hopefully in ways to mend a sense of security and care.

A friend I have spoken to recalled a case in Great Barrington MA where a young person passed about 15 years ago. I had heard of that and felt connected to that kind of sad loss since I had children the same age and we had similar names. I also had a friend who was able to help recover that young person who’d been lost in icy conditions. So our worlds that seemed miles apart in a a sense served as a foreshadowing to help me cope when our son passed unexpectedly. Sadly for our area in the northwest, corner, likely this loss of Steve brings that close to mind. Hopefully we can promote safety and thoroughness in all settings whether recreational, family, social, or work related ventures.

Steve Wingard, often pictured on Facebook with a beautiful smile and a sense of fun and adventure, was raised as part of the loving family of Joan and Jerri Wingard, long-timer residents of the northwest corner of CT.

So far the Steve Wingard Funeral and Memorial Fund has raised $8K toward a goal of $10K. Let’s pull together to help get that fund over the top! Thank you to all the people donating and showing support to this dedicated family as well as others who sadly may experience challenges along these lines or other difficulties. The kind words, acts of kindness and support can be very helpful on many levels.
