Dear all,

Many of you have likely heard about the surge in attacks on Asian Americans being reported in the news and on social media. These attacks demonstrate an ugly xenophobia and racial prejudice that persists in our country today.

 

These events are deeply saddening and we at the College condemn such hatred and bigotry. From the start of the pandemic, anti-Asian violence has increased; we denounce such violence at every turn.

In response to a young mother who shared her recovery story in my circles, I wrote the following...and am sharing it here knowing we can all draw on one another's strength, wisdom and friendship.

Trust that many people love you and care about every aspect of your life, the struggles, the questions and confusion...the small choices about taking a moment to be grateful for a new day, a fresh start and way to respond to any conflict or need, any interchange that is difficult or challenging (whether an internal or external dialogue...we've all got 'voices in our head' about someone judging

 What's school got to do with court? Apparently a few correlations as in following the law is sometimes done..and often not done.

Whose keeping track of any particular path a regional school district is on? In the hills of northwest CT people have been taking a more vocal stance on how the regional school system, particularly the high school that serves six towns, is operating from the top down

. There are key players in terms of administrative roles as well as the people in those roles that have been discussed at length for years.

Ever think of what would happen if one really tried to pull the tablecloth out from everything on the table?

Dishes would go flying, bottles of water would tip over and i not capped, spill onto the floor and likely everyone would jump back from the table!

What if something like this happened  when having fondue at a family party?

 Consider what could happen if someone thought it were safe to 'relight' the flame below the little warming pot and didn't realize something had dripped in the way of lighter fluid so that in a moment the table cloth caught on fire!

Online this morning, I read about Jack Sheedy who was happily married to Jean Sands later in life. She passed away from painful illnesss but had written poetry for two books, the most recent is called Close But Not Touching" and the former one "Gandy Dancing" (2009). The latter  Jean was able to get published and the other not quite.

In the Republican-American CT newspaper, Jack says throwing out her work would have been like letting all her work be for nothing. He wanted to honor her efforts which would have been a gift to him by making it a gift for her.
