As difficult as this is to hear and realize is changing our country on multitude of levels, some in difficult and violent ways, but primarily in amazing ways of bringing people together, this is a breath of fresh and lifegiving air. It's all very heartbreaking...the whole turn of events. What we might look into as well are factors of what may have caused Chauvin and the other police to do what they did. Was that a pattern among them and among the Minneapolis police, or wider trends? Some of the remarks that have shared indicate that 'far too many times' people have died in police custody (and surely have been injured,) with a great disproportianate number being men of color. The attorney encourages us to 'Take a Breath for George,  Take a Breath for Peace,...for Justice and ...to Heal Our Country...." as the widely watched live video is rocking our world.

With the Q & A at the end of the initial talks...#1.Will you be making copies of the autopsy available from Dr. Wilson and another doctor speaking for the family once all the information is factored in, the cause of death was 'mechanical asyphxiation'. But for the pressure applied to George's neck and back. George would have lived. What the police were using to avoid deadly force became that and is therefore a form of homicide.

Catherine Paton #2 The initial autopsy did not include the factors of the pressure applied by the knees and George Floyd's statements that he could not breathe. Advocacy for equal justice for white and black America with arrests and convictions of all the policemen involved in the final minutes of George Floyd's statement that he couldn't breathe. That he could speak was not evidence that he could breathe, one doctor clarified, due to the compression of his neck and back.

Catherine Paton #3 Circumstances of drug and alcohol are not the cause of death. With a review of Eric Gardner's death in a similar manner, no criminal charges were initially brought to bear on the officer(s) involved. There are too many deaths that have been linked to being in police custody for unjust and uncalled for reasons. Advocacy for reform is being shared.

Catherine Paton With the recap --the knees to the back and to the neck contributed to George Floyd not being able to get oxygen (the blood flow may have been constricted to the brain with the pressure to the brain, and the lungs could not inflate fully so also likely contributed to the decline and death of George Floyd. ) They feel there were criminal aspects to applying those restraints and by continuing to mount the pressure, they knew they could have caused death.

To be culpable of a crime they only had to know that they were at risk of causing someone's death. George Floyd's family want the officer charged to the full extent of the law, in this case, first degree murder charge. They feel that would be equal justice because black lives matter. The determination and cause of manner of death includes the video footage and biological information (organ damage and fecal matter indicating asphyxiation.)
Everything is taken into consideration, including starting at the scene of the passing. The multiple videos show pressure that can cause death and calling out for breath and for his Mother (who had been dead for three years) are evidence. Abrasions to the left side of his face with the left side of the neck being squeezed down by Chauvin's knee which indicate an interference of breathing (pressure on the nose and mouth.) There were severe scrape marks on his face are signs of being rubbed against the pavement. When a brave man was trying to interfere with the restraint. The officer was then readjusting his knee to further compress the airway is evidence of criminal conduct.
