To the Editor:

While the Warner Theatre takes center stage on Main Street in Torrington CT, not everyone counts themselves in the loop of would-be event goers. Families from MA/NY CT area can enjoy the annual Family Fun Fair in February (which includes access to Kids Play across the street as well), Youth Actors perform a few plays a year with programs available through a year-round arts programming.

Dance, music, entertainers and smaller events can suit a variety of interests in the opulent main theatre or the smaller Nancy Marine Studio Theatre. I have enjoyed seeing dozens of performances as an usher over the years and have attended an array of events there as well from WOW! (Women of the World) to talks by authors and about non-profit management.

Most schools offer programs for youth, shows and sports which benefit from community support, as do libraries. Being involved in one's community is an art in itself yet creates enthusiasm for one's area and the people from neighboring towns.

While it may take time to catch on, there's likely a theatre lover, adult education student, speaking club or garden club visitor, or enthusiastic spectator in everyone. Invite friends of all ages along when you venture to your next event or faith service near or far.

Everyone can be a cultural ambassador. Discoveries that enjoying life is good for one's health add to the 'plus side' of indulging one's dreams to be part of a show and wider circle of friendly folks.

The politics and budgets for advertising can make it hard to spread the word, so enjoy this outreach along with a warm invitation to take a slower approach to getting errands done or driving so that one can be more open to enjoying the finer things in life in a safe, courteous manner.

PS I actually got to go to Family Fun Fair today--a blast! See www.ronatales.com to enjoy a great storyteller. About 30 kids got to be part of tales of adventure and repeat key lines of scary and funny parts of stories. Some sat on a low stage as good listeners (a great way to get over stage nerves, just to make it part of living..to be on stage, join in and even play as at Kids Play across from our Warner arena, all on Main St in Torrington. At Kids Play our young ones were climbing in a great tree fort, cooking, playing store, riding on fire trucks (after seeing and climbing in a real one), and ringing a train bell. About 50 people were offering ideas from robotics and science (air tubes sucking up balls or scarves and dropping back down on kids...), balloon twisting, face painting, treats for naming good food on a spin, raffles for tix to Warner, a week of camp in Winsted and lots more. Likely 500 folks were enjoying options from 11-4 (maybe even 1000). Good PR will promote more family friendly events...a win-win for everybuddy! Place a comment about one of your favorite events especially if it's an annual one! Stay tuned for Audubon Festival days or programs at nature centers, libraries, fundraisers for daycares, contra dances (in Cornwall CT on 1st Saturdays at 7pm) or seasonal farm markets and more..it's all good and great to bring friends along. Ciao for now.If budgeting, car pool, bring snacks and eat before you go...keep water and layers for different temps and keep track of all people at all times...
