Spikes Ride for Sandy Hook at Limerock Park in Limerock/ Lakeville CT-- Sat May 3rd, 2014

on Tue, 01/28/2014 - 03:40

What's more amazing than an incredible outpouring of support for a community such as Sandy Hook which suffered the unspeakable?

A second show of support with thousands planning to once again join together to collaborate with everything they've got in the way of giving a day and a way to raise awareness and funds to help the healing needed 'after the initial time of loss, grief and challenge'.

While people the world over donate and give as they can to help a neighbors and local causes, it's becoming a new way of belonging to do rides in memory of loved ones whose earthly journey has closed..or perhaps shifted to a new higher plane.

The effects of losing twenty children, six adults and another two people on December 14th, 2012 rocked our country in unforeseen ways. Our local HoUSAtonic High School held their winter concert that night, with many reverent of the days events. I pray that the kind of love could be of comfort to families and even of the children's spirits transitioning. I heard the Long Island Medium speak about that possibility that these children are at peace and were grateful for acts of kindness during the time of difficulty such as one rescuer holding a girl who did die, and others noting the many things done to honor the passing of these gentle souls. That was this past year in Torrington CT, and likely many feel these kinds of comforting possiblities, such as a mother who shared a drawing her son did of an angel being with him in a dangerous scene a day before his life was lost in Sandy Hook.

The debates on gun control and regulation, the need to intervene in timely ways for substance use and abuse, mental health or conflicts, and a wider school and town safety net all came to the foreground in the media, online and in state and local agendas.

Who can keep us safe, how can we know what might turn into something serious? See the ideas on Crafting Great Safety PLANS on this blog.. One Tip: Drive and live responsibly and supervise your own kids and friends closely at all events and in general, please!

Amidst the discussions and new funds set up to address these causes many regular, everyday people may have felt there were not too many ways to show their support beyond the immediate Newtown community.

Yet TANSH (Tragedy and Transition at Newtown, Sandy Hook) was a symbol and wake-up call. Create more cool events to empower everybuddy to ASK For help early on and often, get a TEAM of support to think options through (and see www.option.org for ideas too) as well as www.avpusa.org which promotes helping oneself and others (with free online resources).

Let US-All keep a good batch of efforts growing to honor ALL OF OUR LOVED ONES(here and above and those yet to come) and those friends we haven't met yet and the common good by using our lives to make the world and our human race one that moves with more grace and respect for all of life, people, animals, plants and plan-it heart included!

Why not the let the care and community spirit about Sandy Hook inspire some song circles and folk festival energy in one's corner of the world (and maybe donate part of any donations to local causes to keep people safe, promote education and outreach?

Check out online resources such as www.onlinecommunicationtraining.com which has some helpful short clips about how to respond to someone in a dicey situation. Say someone insults you or uses a harsh tone. Maybe they are in a bad mood or don't think they're doing more than sharing their honest feelings...what do YOU Choose to do or  to Respond  so you keep your cool...(walking away if fine especially if there's an easy out to get a drink of water, make a call or use the bathroom).

Tips include  to "pause", say 'That's interesting, tell me more' (or Why would you say that or do that or ask that..as the case may merit'.

Practice and get used to thinking before responding..of course only when that's safe. But even when someone is getting very agitated, being willing to listen (ideally on a phone or with someone else or an exit nearby...can be helpful.) Okay, so back to gathering with friends for a picnic, some family hello time. reunion ideas. Lime Rock is a big place with lots of hillside..so likely there'll be possibilities to 'do your own thing' alongside the main car show. Maybe we can do things in the area and put them on the website...same with wherever you are..do some cool stuff to show 'you are here and Yes, you care!" Keep the ABCs in mind..All the Best for Community and Safety!
