FB Fundraiser, Remembering Kaelan Palmer Paton's Legacy (of Sharon CT): Thanks for Caring and Thanks for Sharin'!

on Thu, 08/22/2019 - 03:50
This summer of 2019 has 'flown by' but sadly not without some turbulence and challenges for our local and wider areas..Some even involving unusual drownings which likely are a huge reminder to everyone to 'be careful around water, high places and trails near water, and much more.'

I cover some of the situations on livfully.org and as it turned out, I knew one person's family rather well from our area and I knew the location of the other situation, since it was the same area our son marked his final moments on earth.

That person seemed to lose his balance, get injured and fall into the water and not be able to be found with friends and professionals searching until the next day. The printed stories gave the wrong name initially and I realized that was another kind of 'what if' that turned out well for the young man who was not actually the victim.

Unfortunately the loss for the person and his circle of friends was clear from the start, as they were with him. How something like a name and age 'got lost in the translation' was strange and rather disturbing, but again, all the more effective in reminding the media to double check facts particularly before printing them.

We are now at a point that the Brooklyn Clinton Hill Block Festival for 2019 which was a tribute to the late Sharon Robinson and which I also shared the story of our son Kaelan's heroic passing with some who were there (and had his photo at an area for young children to enjoy some 'down time playing and getting free books.'

Thanks to all supporting such happenings and grassroot outreaches to enrigh their communities, schools and areas.

I had a couple dozen Clinton Hill tee shirts made up and gifted some to the organizers who worked tirelessly for months prior and many hours the hot day of the event, Saturday, August 17th.

I also gave one tee shirt to he amazing advocateto Trenelle Gabay of the Carey Gabay Foundation who will be rolling out more ways to highlight the need to prevent gun violence in the coming year. I hope everyone is taking the POTUS race seriously! It's our best bet to help our planet and ourselves while there is still a prayer to do so!

. I am cheering Marianne Williamson on and yet feel there's every reason to learn more about the other more public 'top contenders, Elizabeth Warner and Bernie Sanders, for instance.'

There's much to celebrate as well as much to ponder, particularly with the recent development in the Eric Garner legal matter of being in a banned choke hold that factored significantly into his untimely passing. I explore other aspects of that in light of the police officer doing that being fired recently. I cover what was shared in the media and as usual some of my own insights that 'dawned on me' or came to mind.

I feel we need to be brave about fishing around for the nuggets of wisdom and ways to prevent more harm. The focus of much discussion is to clarify the 'game rules' for police to intervene from initial investigations or inquiries to protocol for interacting or informing someone they are being put under arrest. Many advocates are calling for a ban on the choke hold option for subduing someone. Let's all learn and weigh in on that matter. As some others have said we expect police to be able to intervene, and that may include 'putting their hands on someone' and getting a job done particularly if someone won't comply. The issue of whether a person 'can' mentally and practically do so is an important one to explore..in another post.

Thanks for all you have done this summer to make it fun for yourself and others in your circles...That's a winning strategy in life and many aspects of one's experiences. Let's do more of the same in the fall, winter and spring..then we're all set! Thanks for looking also as the important discussion about bike and car safety and respect. That likely could be extended to pedestrians as well..an is on the Northwest Corner Chatter! Chime in as you can! Best to all, Catherine
