For All You Wild and Crazy Drivers Out There, "Please Slow Down" (from many a person but especially Moms with young kiddos) Also Keep Bigger Space Cushions on the Highways and Watch Closely for surprise stops When Changing Lanes, Merging or Turning etc...
Speeding is likely part of a bigger problem that the person is oblivious to...and I cover a lot of ideas in some posts on my blog. Basically let's put together our best tips for getting from Point A to Point B in timely, manageable ways.
Some people never plan a cushion of time (I say half hour per child to get ready for instance...or at least ten minutes if it's a local routine run. Factor in extra time if it's dark, windy, rainy, snowy, really sunny and driving into the sun etc. Use common sense (too many forget that on the couch along with their phone and important papers if forget to check once in the car about 'what they may have forgotten..."
Oh yes and manners (and womanners)...and planning trips to do shopping every few days or weekly rather than more than needed for just one thing etc. Having a team of support to figure out 'all of the above' and even to shop without kids or do other errands at low traffic times is a way to feel more in control.
If you see regular speeders, try to get to know their family and friends and see if some intervention could happen. Keep good spacing when driving too please, not tailgating as people often end up running into people's back ends if a deer or pedestrian or branch etc prompts a driver to brake.
Better to brake than break things too but no picnic if having to slam on them...so when reasonable avoid high traffic areas and times, have others help when merging or changing lanes and remember to walk defensively with bright colors and ideally on sidewalks or grassy areas far from the road, especially with kids.
Important not to let kids run ahead or go to the curb to wait as some cars have jumped the curb so 'hold hands, stick together, look before you cross the street..." (as the song goes...) and of course, watch out for motorcycles and 'quiet cars'...
Hope that's not too much but remember not to drive faster than your angels can fly! (As a bumper sticker reads...) Best to all for a 'Happy Fall"
And I'll add this to my blog too along with ideas for women to drive on even days and men to drive on odd days and see what happens with people getting to where they need to go with a sense of team spirit (also driving north at noon and south at half past, east at quarter after and west at quarter of to avoid people being on the road going in opposite directions...and to help traffic flow (but of course this could result in some extra traffic in certain directions...)
If going to high school early try to not run late as an inexperienced driver which was common last time I checked. Maybe teens have mellowed but again, worth checking for ways to streamline ways to be prepared the night before or have breakfast snacks etc when one arrives to school rather than make a mad dash...to work, school or 'other' destination...I'll put this on Livfully.org my blog now for handy reference...
