Afterglow Reflections of the Falls Village Car Show and Community Networking (an Ongoing Endeavor)
A few folks at our Sharon Garden Club gathering mentioned how wonderful the Falls Village Car Show was. One fellow had a Mustang in the show, someone else was wanting to know if some cars were for sale in a special area. I mentioned that was something individuals had a sign on their car about. Again Huge Kudos to Denny and Judy Jacobs and all of their Crew and to Dennis Gage for Making it That Much More Special for the Hundreds of Entrants and AppreciativeSpectators!
Then of course there was the good vibe of knowing that Dennis Gage was there from Indianapolis and Television Car Show fame. I saw him speaking with Glenn with the Maverick which I told the Mustang owner who was near him. That "Mustang fellow" then shared that his mother had a Maverick back in the day just to drive to work, but its no longer in the family or circles he knows of.
The CT Sharon Garden Club meets monthly, as it has for a few decades, with details from a member. We voted to donate $100 to the Sharon Audubon Center in Sharon on Route 4. They have a lovely herb garden maintained by the Millbrook Garden Club whose members are a bit over the top in their hard work and generosity...and have been for decades.
I hope to start a less formal network for all folks wanting to have the fun without any of the hands on help with a community garden (which is about a week in the summer of watering and pruning one by the Sharon Bargain Barn.) For the meetings with a theme of caring for gardens, trees, landscape design, gardens around the world, invasive species and much more, garden members from many areas come to the meeting, about 20, usually and speakers are planned for the year in advance.
Guests ( the public) are welcome a couple of times at least before being encouraged to join. FYI many members have an array of wonderful hobbies and often live well into their elder years. A tree was planted in memory of longtime member Millie Rick, age 99, at the Sharon Historical Society, so the connections keep growing..from gardens, to groups and cars and sharing journeys over the decades.
Thanks for the highlight of the FV Car Show which has been the impetus for so much community networking and applauding the talents and treasures of so many all while helping the Falls Village Fire Department.!The behind the scenes support of the rescue squads and volunteers cannot be overestimated.
We can each take steps toward preventing the need for such services by getting to know our neighbors and be willing to 'lend a hand while still on land'. Also promoting safe driving can be a shared endeavor. We have great leadership here (and likely more online as is the case for reviewing many basics and getting more insights.) With programs on Lime Rock Track as well as in the classroom and in articles,
Survive the Drive has done everyone a huge service with highlighting the human factor and appreciating the mechanics of driving. Bob Green, a long time local resident and highly skilled instructor has given presentations to over 100.000 people! They had a few spots left in their $299 morning field program on July 31st. The sooner people hone their skills for handling emergencies the better. Likely much more is needed for all drivers since as in life, it's about Sharing the Road Safely and Capably.
Those with a team player sense of sportsmanship can help nurture the respect and knowledge that is key to driving on the roads in towns, cities, highways and back roads...with a 'team mentality.' Thanks in advance for being part of the cool dance of getting from Point A to Point B safely and allowing others in vehicles or on motorcycles, bikes of walking or running do the same. That's where the Big Game of Life becomes very real moment to moment, so not being distracted is a great goal as in not texting, talking on cells (even hands off has been noted to be almost as distracting since our minds can only really be in one lane of thought at a time most effectively. That would also mean no buzzed driving (even on prescription meds that affect driving and reaction times.) We all 'know this stuff' but need to bring it to the forefront of our collective knowledge.
A designated driver for anyone drinking (even one drink especially for women which puts them at the legal limit generally or two for a fellow but really --Why risk that fuzzy ground. If an accident or motor vehicle collision occurs, the driver pays the penalty if they survive the drive.
So not to get too heavy here, but remember not to hammer down when cruising along the scenic roads in our area or even not going wild on the highways (especially if high..) There are Other Precious People in their Cars Living Their Remarkable Lives And even Critters or Mechanical Issues to Keep in mind too. Let's not push the need or hope for AI (Artificial Intelligence to be a shoe-in to take over for incompetency or recklessness...)
Okay, I will put this in park and post on my blog www.livfully.org Hope everybuddy is continuing on with a Joyful July and finding friends with a sense of fairness and fun to enjoy it with fully and coolly.
