We all know what a challenging week it's been with not only the impeachment playing out like a high drama mini-series (thankfully without the kind of violence that can go with legal cases and the big leagues..)
But with more open discussions of 'all things in the news, past, present and future' with sexual assault cases...the 'He Said, She Said, Blame the Victim at least a little or a lot, get different scenarios cooked up to make it look like it Was the victim's fault-- of any age, gender and so on, even with the loss of children to abusive parents or a legal spouse or co-parent to the other. In the past years I have learned of many parents who have suffered losses from access to seeing their children to worse (yes the final physical loss.) I have met some of these family members who have deep sorrow and yet let that fuel their advocacy for a safer world much like those seeing to end gun violence and addiction. We do have more control over ongoing efforts than we realize.
One such family created Kayden's Korner in memory of their young girl Kayden with safer custody laws since her biological father claimed her life in Bucks County PA (the same home state as Kobe Bryant) in recent years. I now realize any area holds stories of challenge and grace, so helping people recover and improve the world can be part of the response to any difficulty or loss.
I share more about our own 'could have happened to anyone' tragic turn of events that resulted in the passing of our teen son on Remembering Kaelan Alexander Palmer Paton. I have been trying to promote Prevention of Accidents Crimes (including custody dangers) and Troubles (of all kinds) with a Team, so PACTT and welcome people joining in that effort. We need to get clear about Human Rights Issues, Public Health Concerns, Unchecked Relationship and Mental Health Standards for our times, and much more. Now I meant to just 'go positive' with this post. The last talk I heard on the LisaGarr.Com show recently with Mike Dooley shared a story of a basketball player Theo who got a million dollar shot on a basketball court.
Theo literally entered a contest and it all came together (with people thinking positively in his social circles, much like The Power of Eight by Lynn McTaggert now that I think about it..and much of what Gregg Braden shares among others.) In light of the passing of the nine people on Kobe Bryant's helicopter last Sunday, January 26th, 2020 the story of Theo's 'low odds' in a basketball setting is like a note of hope and promise, to remember we are all getting many more miracles than not, alone and together.
We can also consider the wake up call of our shared journey on many levels, for safety, decision-making, thinking things through in advance and more going through the Kobe Bryant and Friends Twist of Fate. As difficult as it is to consider, I have lived through personal challenges in the passing of loved ones and others (plenty I did not know but care about all the same) from various causes, including accidents which can catch one completely off guard.
It is strange to really be drawn to get to know someone because of their passing, or even because of their fame (positively or negatively.) I reflected more on learning of Kobe's passing in a previous post with some updates as I learned more about who he was and his life story..which I hadn't recalled if I had known of him over the years, not being one to watch sports for the most part. That will change!
With loving care for our country and all who are wanting to move forward with gratitude and faith in the future, we can continue to do our best in the game of life and relationships, checking in and taking advantage of life oppportunities with respect and care.
A team of support in figuring things out (not to freeze anyone in worry or indecision, but maybe using more apps for checking basics like the weather, travel and other conditions and planning to 'Drawdown' (as a book is called to help ease problems with climate change.) There is a lot to consider about the events of the last day of Kobe and his friends and daughter's life.
Who knows more about the kind of 'up an down' and hovering travel a helicopter does (or if in a car for road trips, planning time to delay for weather or traffic, maybe go the night before for a 'big game' or other event.) These kinds of new shared insights can benefit more people. Perhaps doing less travel for 'travel teams' in terms of waiting until youth are 10 or 14 to play in larger leagues would keep more people safe in general. I thought of how I grew up at one school, K-8.
Somehow we managed with playing other teams from the time I was 10, but really that could have waited until I was 12 for more than one or two schools nearby. We had about 12 games and really the running and learning basic skills was plenty in itself. Now youth that age travel far and wide, for an hour in every direction by car. I applaud people's enthusiasm but that starts at around age 6.
That may just be 'me' but I see so many youth in cities who don't have didlee (anything) compared to the programs in the suburbs and rural areas. With smaller populations in rural America (a trend that will continue to drop throug 2050 I recall) it takes a few towns to make a team. We are looking at having regional sports for youth from six towns in Region One in the NW corner of CT to play teams in other states nearby.
The other idea would be to recruit more people to live in these towns or have students attend affordably (happening in some schools so check that out!) Okay I'll wrap up and mention that there are great things going on and part of that is braving learning about our societal systems, which are like an ongoing game of many sports.
Let's Think Team, Healing and Helping Ourselves and Others with Respect for Nature and the Bigger World As A Basic, Winning Strategy! I am grateful to all who may envision positive things for me as I head out on a big trip for a month to the West Coast...
I'll take a lot of positive intentions and a double dose of faith and gratitude for support on all levels along the way... I have shared a way people can help my advocacy and travel continue on paypal.me/CathPalmPaton The more we share in each other's dreams, advocacy and progress, the more points we gain for the team...here, and yet to come and hopefully with smiles and love from above!
