on Sun, 07/07/2019 - 02:32

While there are many amazing events happening in plenty parts of Brooklyn and the other boroughts of NYC, why not check out something that's 'at the top of cool and authentically amazing' at the International African Arts Festival at  Commodore Barry Park at 1 Park Ave (Flushing and Navy) in Brooklyn NY.

The donation asked is $5 and there are many vendors for food, colorful dress and much more to enjoy, so bring a wad of cash and a credit card to support 'shopping from real people.' For info on vending and housing call 718-638-6700 or connect with them on FB at International African Arts Festival or info@IAAFestival.org.

The program lists that there is OriginDirectory.com which is a 'free black business directory with crowdfundning events and classifieds.'

There was a 30th Annual Symposium on Culture, Community and Struggle at PS 287 at 50 Navy St in Brooklyn NY that ran Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 9am-5pm. I would like to have gotten to that and will see if anything was recorded or otherwise reported. That was 15-20 dollars for a day and included a free pass to the IAAF as well.

With a main stage line up of music and some dance as well, there are hundreds of people watching from folding chairs as well as milling about vendors in various parts of the park. I got to see some of the Saturday night show by Etana but left to avoid potential stormy weather so missed the Kulu Mele-African Dance. Maybe I can find them on youtube.

Meanwhile I met some lovely folks doing demonstrations of Jujitsu (such as we have on Myrtle Avenue near Clinton Ave.) There is a MAUSA (Mastering And Utilizing Self-Awareness )Summer Day  Program from July 1 st  to August 30th, 2019.Fees for the 8am-5pm are $100/ one day weekly and $350/ 5 days weekly.
