When someone posted "Trauma is the Root Cause of Addiction" on FB, a few thoughts came to mind...(Surprise!)
I also hear there is a lot of undiagnosed ADHD linked to substance use...worth a google I'd say. RooI have also heard tt causes can even be generational energetically (so that may link to trauma as well as food/drink habits and biology...)
I've read plenty of the Alice Miller books years ago, but basically there was a huge effort to 'beat the devil out of a child' book that was used for a hundred years in the Middle Ages or thereabouts...That set up unrealistic and unhealthy standards for children, many of whom progressed to working and going into factories. Children still really don't have any legal rights nor enough advocates.
There are no standards to assure parents know about basic child development and how to deal with various normal needs for care. With the internet the info may be there but unless people take time to see it and agree to implement the ideas, they will not benefit.
Thankfully most people are doing somewhere in the realm of 'Okay or better than okay'.
Yet there are many who are missing out on the benefits of good nutrition (banning soda, tons of sugar and corn syrup for the most part...for little kids. The culture creates a lot of 'what kids want and take in' so everyone needs to consider the commercials and even going to stores where there are sugar-coated everything.
Eating basic foods (what Could grow in a garden even if bought at the store or farmer's markets if community gardens aren't available...), limiting carbs (watching portions...which is still a challenge for plenty who have learned the basics. )
Considering the Effects of carbs and sugar on the blood sugar levels and other hormones would be a good course for all to see online. (which needs to be developed.)
That said, since 'we are all on our way out eventually, maybe enjoying life as one really can keep in balance' may not be so bad...the problem can sneak up on any casual drinkers and users to have their thinking and actions go off course.
Now there are more laws to catch people up and have them face the penalties...and even that is not much of a deterrent because of the nature of addiction--behaviors, social ties, perks from a substance and habits tied to identity and looking at life as normal only with 'the literal glass half-full' rather than a positive attitude...
