Timely Help to File Taxes and Claim Federal Stimulus Check if you haven't yet in CT (maybe other states too, so check online!)

Dear Connecticut Resident,

Governor Lamont and the Department of Social Services would like to make you aware of an important free service that may help you during this challenging time. 

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is now available online and by phone with Virtual VITA.  Virtual VITA, an IRS-approved program, can help you get your federal stimulus checks before the July 15 tax filing deadline.

Virtual VITA can assist you with:

• free federal and state tax preparation;

• free filing to receive the federal stimulus checks (also called Economic Impact Payments, or EIP) provided by Congress to help families and individuals during this pandemic; and

• free filing for the temporary federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) for those who cannot get state unemployment benefits.  

You can access this free service from any device.  Simply schedule an appointment with an IRS-certified volunteer by clicking here. This link will bring you to the website of the Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS), the state’s partner in delivering this service to you.

It is important to know that receiving the Economic Impact Payments will not affect your eligibility for DSS food, cash, or medical benefits.

VITA, Asistencia Voluntaria a las Rentas Internas (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, por las siglas en inglés), está ahora disponible en línea y por teléfono con Virtual VITA. Virtual VITA es un programa aprobado por el Servicio de Rentas Internas (IRS), que puede ayudarlo a obtener sus cheques federales de estímulo antes de la fecha límite de presentación de impuestos del 15 de julio.

Virtual VITA puede ayudarle con:

• La preparación gratuita de los impuestos federales y estatales;

• La preparación gratuita para recibir los cheques de estímulo federales (también llamados Pagos de Impacto Económico, o EIP) proporcionados por el Congreso para ayudar a las familias e individuos durante esta pandemia; y

• La preparación gratuita de la Asistencia Federal Temporal de Desempleo para Pandemias (PUA), para aquéllos que no pueden obtener los beneficios estatales por desempleo.  

Usted puede tener acceso a este servicio gratuito desde cualquier dispositivo. Simplemente programe una cita con un voluntario certificado por el IRS haciendo clic aquí.
