Postponing Halloween Due to Storms on the East Coast? Fair enough idea...play it safe, sing a few songs at home to celebrate Folk-Legacy Records, Inc

In addition to October 31st being Halloween, it's also the founding date of Folk-Legacy Records, Inc which is now part of the Smithsonian Folk Ways Collection. So if the winds are howling outside and the rain pounding down on your rooftop, find a friend or your inner songster and sing along with a song from the Folk Legacy collection of over 150 albums (and CDs) many of which are on youtube.

Whenever you celebrate the last day of October, whether for Halloween, your own sense of completion of September and October, getting into the groover of fall, school, work, and gearing up for the winter, reflecting on the other traditions this time of year such as Day of the Dead (or extended days) as in Mexico or All Souls' Day November 1st, make it your own and allow yourself some time to appreciate your experiences too.

I have been spending time in NYC (Brooklyn) and CT so go back and forth sometimes from city to country living with the train providing a few hours of transition time. A note through November however (maybe only Nov. 15th but check..) is that the Buses take people From Wassaic to South East 30-45 minutes before the normal departure time  listed from Wassaic for the trains during off peak (OP) daytime hours.

Those shuttles may be free so one may be able to buy their ticket from SE station by the way..but check. Have two credit cards or cash in case the machines are funky. You can also buy a ticket on the train if the machines are not working or at a higher price even if they are by the way. There are e-tickets to look into as well. Those should be activated before leaving the station (which there's cell service.) I did that a time or two and hope to get the hang of that again.

By the way if you're ever running late, you may not try to stop the train to get on it.

They won't let you on (even if you block their path on the train tracks when the gates are down as one woman did a couple months ago.) It's a drag to miss a train and can happen. But that's life and maybe someone would be willing to drive a person to the next station or so down the line, but have cash and ideally a driver ready to do just that if need be.

As for that woman, likely she had other 'mental health challenges' and really should have a person help her plan and accompany her lest she do more dangerous things. We can all learn from her example however, and be more cautious and remember the world doesn't revolve around each of us individually.

Then again with moves like that, the impact of a train would have been profound on that person in particular. Maybe there should be signs and fines posted for being on the tracks or trying to stop a train in such a manner due to tardiness (versus seeing something clearly dangerous.)

Maybe a phone number could be given to ask a conductor to wait if there were some urgent need to delay the train 1-3 minutes and again a late fee charged (10 dollars etc.) Who knows what we might all learn and create in response to that type of situation.

Plan to be 10-15 minutes early Before the listed train time since that is the time of departure not boarding as well. Usually there is a 10 minute loading period but that's not in stone.

Always makes sense then to check the latest information online even though it can be handy to have a paper schedule to have a basic idea of the times and which should prove reliable once the buses are not needed. That's not an official announcement on their part through me, just me giving some basic advice. That said I may have to revise stick with their guidelines...( so I took out some of the particulars..) Still maybe someone could make an overlay to put over the existing map with numbers for the stops or other info they may wish to convey. Just a thought...and now it's off to bed before midnight...and hopefully before 10 pm in the very near future for health and good sleep....
