As One Friend Posts, "We Need to Get Real about Car Safety for Kids, not leaving kids in a car by mistake and more"
So far in early August in the USA, there have been 39 deaths of children left or found in cars (some that they get into on their own, so an important reason to check cars often before and after using them and to lock the car and keep windows and doors closed to prevent someone from climbing in to hide etc.) Safety advocates are promoting better standards for the auto industry yet more can be done by parents, drivers and communities at large in every state.
We could promote having a Doll or Toy large enough (and with a tee shirt with the child's name on it) that a person puts in the car seat when the child is not in in...and then Moves it to the front when the child is in the front (maybe with a special holder so the person doesn't lose it in the front seat.) There could be a timer button on it that beeps every 5-10 minutes or other way to remind the person.
Also one could set their phone to have an alarm ring 5 minutes before one is arriving to a daycare or again periodically etc . A basic note in every car (item that is specifically for Check the Kids for instance, a child playing with a ball or other basic symbol (Stay on the Ball, Check the Child One and All!)
The other parent or buddy could send a regular text..or have the daycare person call them if there is any break from a routine etc or get a confirmation from the parent when they are dropping off the child with a daycare person seeing the text to have a few steps 'built into the routine' voluntarily...
Okay I will post all this on my blog livfully.org The reality is people need to learn 'mindfulness' and not multi-tasking...and getting clear about the important benefits of doing things in a routine way...and with many safety points. The list could be made so people don't have to 'start from scratch' and maybe come up short 'predictably'...
Having others help them make plans for improving each step of childcare, getting places in a timely, safe manner and having safe transitions (allowing time and support for that) can help drive practical businesses and encourage more of a societal support system for people of any age... )
Likely more will be happy to chime in, make apps and do lots more to promote safety and well-being. Then these youngest innocent teachers will not have died in vain... we can and must do better on many fronts, much as we've done across the board for many, with others often paving the way.
