Another Wonderful Time at the Waldorf Fair...in Brooklyn NY. Lots of adventures and treats (even 50-50 raffle that won somebuddy over $4500, no small potatoes!)
Don't worry you can still enjoy some of the festive treats from the Waldorf Fair by going to their Online Auction which closes on Sunday, Dec 3rd, 2017 at 9pm if memory serves from my day at the fair. Many auction items are of a certificate nature--stays at a home or other great offer. It's all for a great cause, scholarships I believe if it's like the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School Handcraft Fair (or any other Waldorf Fair for that purpose). The auction site is 32auctions.com/bws2017. Happy Bidding (you will need to sign in and make an account, but again this could be a great way to get your shopping done for others and maybe treat yourself as well!
Check out the Rudolf Steiner Bookstore at www.rsbookstore.org for other cool ideas. They will be donating a portion of the sales this month back to the school, so that's a good feeling and extra nice way to spread the joy and wealth. Get inspired by ideas and making some handcrafts, music, stories and more. I shared with a few folks that I have The Jewel Story By Catherine Palmer Paton online for anyone to listen to, and the text as well. I would like to work on getting the book published with illustrations...and Waldorf themes are inspiring and universal. Maybe I will use patreon to help me get that off the ground...not unlike the Snow Goose taking the jewel to the sun deftly balanced on his wings...
If you are in NYC The RS Bookstore is at 138 W15th St between 6th and 7th ave and their phone is 212-242-8945 (and check their hours, I think closed Mondays..)
Back to the Brooklyn Waldorf School, there's a Parent Child Tea and Play Time weekly for an hour, register at www.brooklynwaldorf.org.That is for expectant parents and little ones through age 3.
Check out some of the amazing vendors I got to see in person along with their special wares, oils and offerings...These include www.monkoil.com, www.frazzled.com/pottery, www.craftspring.com, www.acorntoyshop.com, www.beautifulsentience.com, www.halmi.co, www.storylandcity.com,www.goldiessoap.com ,facebooky.com/Simply/DiDelicious/, www.ateliieratsuyoetakiko.com, www.igivesoap.com,www.lisamedoffdesigns.com, www.marisadesign.com,wwwchibacha-ny.com, Emily Waters (art, fabric pieces),www.thayer.works, www.asnyc.org/bookstore.htm, www.oceanohandmadebags.com, esty.com/shop/Cejadedesigns30, wwwmyhavtorn.com, esty.com/shop/ManiMina
Another special woodworker I wanted to promote for his fine craft and generous donations is John Roccanova of Pine Plains NY. I will get the info for his efforts soon, but likely one could google his info and make a donation to the school he helps abroad as well (by buying his wooden bowls or thinking big and donating.) Other mission efforts are done by many faith groups such as Greenwoods Church in Ashley Falls MA. They donate proceeds from their annual Messiah concert for instance, as does the CT Sharon Congregational Church do for its annual Christmas Eve service. I was fortunate to attend the Messiah concert at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn NY Saturday December 2nd, 2017 with the Brooklyn Community Choir and guest artists and musicians that did the work justice. It's an annual event to appreciate and again consider supporting for the stellar effort and concert.
Wishing everyone a season of warmth. light and peace as the weeks of winter come round and the many matters face us as communities of caring individuals. These are times that deserve our attention as though choristers heeding every note and using our skills to enliven the music with our talents. Every person has value and can find a way to belong to the wider community efforts of caring for one another, the planet and its resources with an eye to sustainability and common sense and respect for one another. Thanks for doing your part. (now you can get back to shopping and bidding on the online items.
